Maha Navami 2021 date, time and significance
Maha Navami 2021 will be observed on Thursday, 14 October, 2021. Mahanavami, also known as Durga Navami, marks the ninth day of Navratri festival and is considered highly auspicious in the Hindu religion. Maha Navami literary means – the great ninth day.
Maha Navami is also celebrated as the victory of good over evil. It is believed that on this day Goddess Durga took the form of Mahisasur Mardini to destroy Mahishaura, the demon who was terrorizing the universe.
India is a diverse country and Mahanavami is celebrated in many ways across the nation. In the northern part of India, Kanya Puja is observed on this day, while in Gujarat, Mahanavmi is celebrated with Garba and dandiya raas as other eight days of Navratri. In the east, Navami is of great significance in Bengal as it is the last day of Durga Puja.
In the southern region of India, Suhasini Puja is performed. Married women, a symbol of Maha Shakti, are offered the Shodasopachara Puja. Followers of Dus Mahavidyas worship Matangi on this day and Maa Siddhidhatri is worshipped by Navdurga Sampradaya followers.
Navratri 2021 Ashtami puja vidhi, mantras, and significance
On the Ashtami Tithi of Navratri, Hindu devotees worship Maa Mahagauri Devi. The day is also known as Maha Ashtami. The term Gauri signifies that she is the daughter of Giri or mountain. She rides on a bull holding a trident in her hands along with a damaru. She wears white clothes and her face is resplendent like that of a cool moon.

Maa Gauri loves the night blooming jasmines. On the 8th day Navratri, offer night jasmine flowers to Maa Mahagauri and recite the mantras given below and do the aarti at the end.
